Re-designing an object from the FUI collection with CAD
3D prints exhibited at "Shameless" Student Showcase in The Wolfsonian - FIU, Miami, USA
This project draws from archival material to playfully reinterpret the form and function of historical design objects. A Mellopure pipe was taken from the Wolfsonian FIU Collection with the purpose to study its visual language and apply the knowledge to create new series of objects inspired by the pipe.
After analyzing the pictures from the collection and gathering exact measurements offered by FIU Miami students, I used the shapes and material specifications to first make a 3D replica of the pipe and then to re-design the object. I attempted to translate similar design elements into three other objects: headphones, a lighter, and a hairdryer. The objects were first modeled in CAD software and one 3D printed as a prototype for the museum exhibit.
